Sports Director and Host of The Hammer Down Show on 101.7 The Hammer (WASK-AM), Jared Jesulaitis, recently served as a mentor at the 27th annual Sports Media Camp for Kids held at Danville Area Community College. Jesulaitis shared his expertise, experiences, and advice with the young attendees who have aspirations in the field of sports broadcasting.

Jesulaitis discussed his own journey in the industry and emphasized the importance of hard work, dedication, and continuous learning.  During his session, Jesulaitis stressed the significance of prep-work in sports broadcasting and encouraged the participants to prioritize preparation to enhance their performance.  He also urged the aspiring broadcasters to remain adaptable and explore various roles within the sports media industry.

One of the key takeaways from Jesulaitis’s mentorship was the value of learning from mistakes. He encouraged the participants to embrace setbacks as learning experiences and emphasized the importance of resilience in the field.

Reflecting on his experience, Jesulaitis said, “It’s always great to share my experiences and knowledge with young kids…especially, those who want to get into sports broadcasting.”

You can hear Jesulaitis on 101.7 The Hammer weekdays 3pm – 4pm (eastern) and on The Hammer Down Show Podcast.

This year’s Sports Media Camp was held the week of June 19th and featured many guest speakers including Darrin Brown of the Big Ten Network, Laura Hensgen of Danville Area Community College TV, Ari Temkin of the Chicago Bears Network, Luke Steiner from Ohio University, and Zack Galia of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
