Over the weekend of September 16-18, 2022, Neuhoff Media Danville General Manager Tom Barnes rode 100 miles on bicycle as part of the “Tour de Cure-Nationwide” event. Barnes received the “champion to fight diabetes” status from the American Diabetes Association for raising over $1,000 within a year for the organization. As of September 2022, Barnes has raised $2,208.11.

Tour de Cure is a cycling event to benefit the American Diabetes Association that takes place in many cities throughout the country each year. Barnes has participated in the Tour de Cure since 2015 due to this brother and his mother were both diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Barnes has specifically commemorated each of his rides to his brother Stuart, since he passed away from complications due to type 2 diabetes in October 2020.

“Everyone knew Stu!” Barnes said about his brother. “Wherever I went with him, someone always knew him. From Indy to Chicago to St. Louis and beyond. He was well loved by friends, and deeply loved by his family. He was my big brother.”

Barnes has raised over $16,000 since his first time participating in the Tour de Cure since 2015. Barnes has received the “champion” status every year he has participated. Donations are still being accepted on Barnes’s online fundraising page.

Barnes carried A St. Louis Cardinals embroidered logo and a 2019 Indy 500 Pit Pass owned by Stuart on his ride this year. Barnes says these were “…two things that we got to share together each year.”
