March 8, 2016 – Over 400 people gathered at the Decatur, Illinois, Conference Center and Hotel to recognize the unsung heroes who play a vital role in local sports in the area, and to enjoy an evening with one of the world’s preeminent sports television producers.
The CBS Champions Dinner was presented by J.L. Hubbard Insurance and Bonds, and hosted by Neuhoff Media Decatur Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel.
The evening began by honoring and presenting awards to the “Sports Parent of the Year” which went to Laurie Young and her support of Warrensburg-Latham Schools. The “Sports Volunteer of the Year” award went to Mark Birch for his support of Decatur Eisenhower High School.
After the awards, those attending enjoyed hearing from the guest speaker of the evening, Lance Barrow. Barrow is the Lead Producer of the NFL on CBS and was the lead producer of Superbowl 50. The Fort Worth Texas Native is an 11 time Emmy winner and spent the day in Decatur and praised the activity, leadership and community service and embrace of the people of Decatur. Barrow says honoring the parents for their hard work is well deserved and very unique. “I think it’s very special,” says Barrow. “I think it’s wonderful that a community honors parents and volunteers who give their time and dedicate themselves to improving a young man or woman’s life in whatever way they can.”
Neuhoff Media donated five hundred dollars to the athletic programs of each of the schools represented by the award winners of the evening.
