The annual Light Up the Gables event joyously kicked off the holiday season in Springfield, Illinois, on Friday November 24, 2023. The festivities commenced at 5:00 p.m. at The Gables, an upscale shopping center on Springfield’s west side. This beloved event featured the lighting of the Christmas tree and an array of sparkling lights to usher in the spirit of the holidays.
Beni Harmony from 99-7 The MIX was front and center as the emcee during the lighting of the Christmas tree. Her quick wit and charisma created a festive and entertaining atmosphere for the tree lighting.
The event also included a short parade featuring “elves” from the Springfield Youth Performance Group, the spirited Holly the holiday bus from Sangamon Mass Transit District, and special appearances by historical figures Mary Todd Lincoln and Abe Lincoln. Adding to the joyous spectacle, Santa and Mrs. Claus made a grand entrance in convertibles provided by Isringhausen Imports.
