Volleyball Drill 1

Skill: Passing

Focus: Leaning forward, making sure your shoulders are forward when you pass.

Equipment Needed:

  • Volleyball
  • Matt/Towel
  • Wall

Challenge: Pass from the side lean forward and drop your shoulder!

Volleyball Drill 2

Skill: Setting

Focus: Shoulders forward, hands open, pushing through your legs.

Equipment Needed:

  • Volleyball

Challenge: Switch and set – short, medium and high!

Volleyball Drill 3

Skill: Blocking

Focus: Form – shoulder width apart, pike when you reach and jump.

Equipment Needed:

  • Wall

Challenge:  Increase your footwork by doing a step, hop, jump before you block!

Volleyball Drill 4

Skill: Ball Control & Passing Form

Focus: Neutral stance, knees bent, hands out in front creating a platform.

Equipment Needed:

  • Volleyball
  • Open Space

Challenge: Repeat passing but change your pass height from short, medium to high!

Volleyball Drill 5

Skill: Outside Hitting

Focus: Dominant hand up like a bow and arrow, toss the ball, hit the ball with your hand at it’s highest point and focus on hitting the floor first before it bounce off the wall.

Equipment Needed:

  • Volleyball
  • Wall/Fence

Challenge: Set to yourself and then hit the ball!

Volleyball Drill 6

Skill: Coordination

Focus: Athletic position (feet shoulder width apart, arms out wide and forward), catch the ball in your midline.

Equipment Needed:

  • Tennis ball
  • Wall
  • Partner

Challenge: Practice by yourself switching arms as you toss the ball!

Volleyball Drill 7

Skill: Setting Progression

Focus: Athletic stance (one for in front of the other), creating a “U” above your forehead, maintaining control and catch the ball on your forehead.

Equipment Needed:

  • Volleyball
  • Wall

Challenge: Challenge yourself by only using one hand as you practice maintaining control of the ball!

Volleyball Drill 8

Skill: Approach Footwork

Focus: Dominant foot forward, followed by other foot in loaded position and push off your feet to jump.

Equipment Needed:

  • Open Space

Challenge: Add a step or two to your 2 step approach, creating a 3 and 4 step approach!

Volleyball Drill 9

Skill: Serving Contact Point

Focus: Keep elbow high, contact with a full open hand and wrist strong.

Equipment Needed:

  • Volleyball
  • Wall

Challenge: Move away from the wall and try serving in an open area!

Volleyball Drill 10

Skill: Serving

Focus: Non-dominant foot forward, toss the ball right in front of you with your arm up, step and swing. The direction of your thumb and pinky can change the direct the ball moves!

Equipment Needed:

  • Volleyball
  • Wall

Challenge: Try to hit the same spot on the wall 10 times! Then try changing the direction of where you the the ball!
